Brockelrigg Guest House is in a quiet location on the North Solway Coast, looking over the Solway Firth to Scotland. We are only 13 miles from the historic Border city of Carlisle. It is an excellent base for exploring the local area with many historic attractions and some fantastic walking / cycling to be had nearby.
The famous Roman Wall - Hadrians Wall - marking the Northern border of the former Roman Empire, starts at Bowness on Solway, 1.5 miles west of Brockelrigg and actually passes through the village of Port Carlisle. The local area is full of history and unspoiled scenery to explore. This is Border Reiver country after all.
To the east, the historic city of Carlisle with its Castle, Cathedral and Tullie House (Border Reivers) Museum, as well as its excellent shopping and restaurants, is well worth a visit.
Several major walking and cycling routes, such as the Hadrian's Wall Path Trail (Bowness to Newcastle) and the Hadrian's Wall Cycle Way (South Shields to Ravenglass), pass through this area.
We are only 14 miles from the Lake District National Park and have some of the quieter access routes to the Lake District. We are only 35 minutes drive from Caldbeck in the Northern Fells, a specacular yet often overlooked part of the North Lakes. Well worth a visit.
Why not take in a day at the races? - Carlisle Race Course is only a short drive away from us. For farmers, we are close to Longtown and Carlisle farmers auction marts. Getting married at Gretna Green? Why not stay in luxury at Brockelrigg? We're only a few miles away.
If you are staying for business in Carlisle, why not stay out of town in a luxury B&B suite rather than a faceless national hotel chain room? A much more civilised option!
Whether it is walking, cycling, horse riding, touring or staying in the area on business, there is something for everyone in this part of Cumbria.
"It's an absolute joy to stay here. The comfort level is exceptional and the tranquility is bliss! Thank you so much!" - MW Carlisle
